Our American Mahjong tiles are crafted from high-quality acrylic using a precise, multi-step manufacturing process designed for durability, smooth play, and a premium feel.

The process begins with premium acrylic material that is carefully molded to create tiles with the ideal weight and balance. We offer both layered tiles and solid single-color tiles. Each tile is then precisely engraved, followed by UV printing or painting (depending on the design). A final protective coating is applied to ensure the tiles resist chipping, fading, and wear over years of regular play. They are then polished for vibrancy, with darker colors hand-polished to minimize production marks.

This meticulous process, combined with rigorous quality control, produces the smooth, satisfying click and professional finish that serious Mahjong players love.

Our tiles and mats are made in China. While we do not disclose our exact manufacturer, we have conducted extensive due diligence, thoroughly researching and evaluating multiple factories to select one that meets the highest standards of quality and reputation.

Yes, our sets are designed specifically for American Mahjong and contain 160 tiles, including 10 Jokers, 8 Flowers, 6 Blanks, and the standard suits, dragons, and winds. Many players prefer using 8 Jokers and no blanks — simply set aside any tiles you don't need.

All our tiles are on the larger side for better handling and readability. We offer both single-color and layered tiles depending on the collection. For exact dimensions, please check the product description.

Lotus Mahjong started as an Etsy shop selling only mats and tees so we could get real feedback on our designs and service. From there we adapted the products for larger production runs. A couple of examples: we switched to neoprene and made the logo smaller and more subtle after some of you suggested it (thank you — I agreed and made the change!).

Playing at different studios on different tiles with different groups of players also helped us zero in on what matters most. The many mahjong social media pages have been especially useful. Reading and listening every day to what players care about — clear suits, readable numbers, beautiful graphics, and a real connection to the tradition of the tiles — has shaped our design approach.
